Beautiful Bulbfields Around the World for Healthy Life

At the weekend I visited the island of Anglesey in North Wales. Lining the country lanes were bright clumps of beautiful daffodils. Along with the bleating baby lambs in the fields, it made me happy as it was a sign that spring is on its way. I love seeing brightly coloured fields, so I asked our travel bloggers for the best places they’ve visited where fields were full of flowers.

Skagit Valley, nr Seattle, Washington, USA

The two main tulip bulb producers in the area are Roozengaarde/Washington Tulips and Tulip Town both of which have magnificent display gardens and tulip fields to see and visit during the springtime festival.

Not only can you see tulips there in April, but if you’re able to visit earlier in the month of March, they will even have daffodils abloom! Skagit Valley is easy to get to as you can drive there from Seattle or Vancouver.

Lavender Fields, Provence, France

Every year in summer the landscape in Provence is peppered with purple rows of flowering lavender. You won’t have to search far in order to find one, but among the most iconic lavender fields in Provence are those located on the Valensole plateau. It’s here you’ll find endless lavender farms located between the pretty villages – simply head towards the village of Valensole and then onwards towards the Verdon Gorge. The lavender in this part of Provence flowers typically from the last week of June through to when they harvest it mid-July, and it makes for a spectacular sight.

Be sure to catch the annual lavender festival held in Valensole village on the third Sunday of July to experience the culture and traditions behind the crop too. If you’re visiting in late July, or early August, head to the Sault plateau instead. The lavender fields are plentiful and flower later due to their elevated position.

Poppy Fields around Almaty, Kazakhstan

One of the best places to see a wild array of flowers is the endless poppy fields around Almaty, Kazakhstan. These fields bloom for a couple of weeks at the end of April into May and are absolutely one of the most beautiful sights I have ever seen. They are situated around Almaty- so if you take one of the few highways that leave the city, you will see them in full bloom during this time. Do be careful if you are in the villages, however, as these flowers are a source of ethical income for them (flower sales).

If you’re looking to find the poppy fields in a stunning backdrop, head toward the village ‘Kosmos’ outside of Almaty and there are many fields around there that will showcase Almaty’s majestic mountains in the background.  During the spring season, I would definitely say that this is one of the best day trips from Almaty… even more so than Big Almaty Lake!

Carlsbad Ranch, San Diego, USA

Probably one of the most popular places to visit and enjoy all the spring flowers and colours in the San Diego area is the flower fields at Carlsbad Ranch just outside of the city area. It is a spectacular show at their gardens and nursery in which an entire hillside is filled with lines of colourful ranunculus flowers and in their show gardens other popular flowers including roses, geraniums, poppies and other annuals and perennials in the flower beds. Their nursery sells all of the bulbs including fresh flowers plants and other ornamentals in the expansive garden nursery.

Close by to the nursery are strawberry stands that sell the most amazing and delicious ripe strawberries for sell and a must stop to try these wonderful fruit. There is a nominal entry fee to visit the flower fields at Carlsbad, but you can just go to the nursery for free and get a glimpse of the fields from there if you’re into just taking a quick peak.

Lisse Flower Fields, The Netherlands

In April and May Holland’s infamous tulip fields burst into bloom. There are hundreds of flower fields in the Netherlands but the best ones can be found in Lisse. Lisse is a small Dutch town that is surrounded by rows and rows of tulips in various colors, stretching into all directions. It truly is a magical sight to see and it is clear why these are some of the most famous flower fields in the world.

Lisse is a very accessible flower field that can be reached with a short 20-minute train ride from Amsterdam, and are the nearest Amsterdam tulip fields. Upon arrival, you should rent a bike to explore the fields. Not only is this the most Dutch way to see the tulips, but also there are so many fields that walking would take too long to see them all! Be sure to go here from mid-April to early May to see them in their best and brightest bloom.

Texas Tulips, Texas, USA

You probably didn’t think you will find Tulip fields in Texas, we have a couple of fields thank to Pieter and Petra Koeman. Originally from the Netherlands, they brought a piece of their home to Texas by opening Texas Tulips. They visited Texas several times before deciding to set up a tulip company in Pilot Point Texas. They plant the tulips in December, and they bloom from March to the end of April. We love visiting the tulips fields where you can take photos and also cut some tulips to bring home!

Give how successful and popular the tulip fields have become they have opened another tulip field in Texas near San Antonio.  Spring is usually when many Texans begin searching for bluebonnet fields to take our spring pictures, now we can head to Texas Tulips for taking the Spring pictures among colourful tulips. It’s almost like visiting a European tulip farm! Almost!
